So…do you think YOU can dance?

Okay, by now we all know that adorable, baby-faced Joshua Allen took home the grand prize.  But believe me Twitch  & Katee, will definitely be in the mix. They were good dancers, they brought sweat to the floor and they stretched every muscle in their body the whole season.  I’m not an every episode fan of SYTYCD but I do follow up with other fans, watch you tube or crash my aunt’s tv watching time by reviewing past episodes on her dvr.

Honesty, this was a good season of dancers BUT Sabra’s routines from last season are still the best to me, although that door routine with Twitch and Katee was off the chain.  And Danny Tidwell, of course to me ONE of the better dancers on SYTYCD.  Who knew a dance show would blow up this big!  Man, I wish we had outlets like this back in the day.

Of  course I watch dance shows as a former wannabe dancer, it was a GREAT passion of mine.  So seeing millions of people relate to the art form is very nostalgic to me.  Okay, okay. I also watch b/c of Shane Sparks and Li’l C not to mention I love seeing Mia Michaels choreography.   I know to some people she’s just flat out rude but you know, the girl can create ART on that floor.  And li’l C, he kept dropping the krumper’s intellect on folks.  Yep just stole my heart with his WORDS! His verbiage is insane.  Do your thang L’il C.  Anyway, I was about to take you back down MY memory lane.

Back in the day when I wanted to be a dancer /choreographer the only outlets we had around my way was star search.  Not knocking the show b/c who DIDN’T get their start on that show?   I never took professional classes.  I was self-taught and would put my vcr on ’slow tracking’ so that I could mimic the moves of michael, janet, fred astaire, michael peters and debbie allen of course.   Also you know that’s when BREAK-Dancing was at it’s first peak, so movies like Breakin’ with Ozone & Turbo, and BEAT STREET kept my attention.

My brother and I would also practice some crazy move and develop our own routines. We used try our hand at undergroud L.A. clubs  and learn.  Shoot, I thought I was going to be the next ‘debbie allen/janet jackson combo breakout dancer’/ choreographer.  Fast foward years later, although I’m not the dancing queen I always dreamt of being I still get down on the good foot for cardio work outs.

And speaking of ‘work outs’.  You can catch Shane Sparks, LaurieAnn Gibson (who’s ‘boom kack’ pep phrase annoys me to no end, but hey, she can dance) and Mia Michaels along with a host of other top listed modern, contemporary and hip hop dancer / choreographers right here in Dallas, Texas in December.

They’re holding a 2-3 workshop.  So if YOU think you can Dance, check out the link to the pulse workshop and strap on your dancing shoes! Oh yeah, capezio dance wear is supposedly branching into a hip hop line, so that will be ‘interesting’ to see the looks/ designs.
