Well actually it’s not my first book, it’s like the 3rd one I’ve written since 9th grade, but it’s the first one I’m sending out to publishers/ agents. We’ll call this book ‘QS’. I received favorable feedback on the first 3 chapters and synopsis from a couple of people that I trust in reviewing my work before hand.
One is a published writer who I respect to no end; so her thoughts & opinions mean alot to me. Her counsel, wisdom and experiences in the industry is priceless & she’s prepping me (as my mentor) for my thing (one day). The other is a co-worker who loves to read and is part of a local book club. Both are honest w/out being discouraging or brutal (of the bad news).
Still regardless of what anyone says or believes about my work, I make the final decisions and I have to be the one to SELL it. So it’s up to me to push what I love and believe in from the heart. Both associates said that the excerpt (1st three chapters) made them want to read more about the story; which is exactly what I wanted to hear. This is good news as agents/ publishers (or their hired ‘readers’) will need to have the same feeling, if I’m to acquire interests for my work. We’ll see.
